Deep within Vatican City is one of the world’s great repositories of human history: the Vatican Apostolic Library.
Its collections include more than 180,000 manuscripts and archival units, 1.6 million printed books, thousands of early printed works, and extensive collections of coins, maps, prints, drawings, and photographs.
Its modern history began with Pope Nicholas V, while Pope Sixtus IV formally established the Library in 1475 and opened its collections to scholarly study.
Which would you explore first: the ancient manuscripts, historic maps, rare books, or coins?
