White Supremacy

White supremacy is an ideology asserting that white people are racially superior to all other racial groups and therefore should dominate society politically, culturally, and economically. It encompasses a wide range of beliefs and historical movements that justify the exploitation, marginalization, and subjugation of non-white populations.

Genetic and Cultural Superiority: The notion that individuals with stereotypically European, white physical traits inherently possess superior intellect, morals, and culture

Racial Domination: The belief that white people must dictate societal structures, laws, and resource distribution.

Separation and Nationalism: Many modern adherents advocate for strict racial segregation, "white pride" (or "white power"), or the establishment of independent, exclusively white ethnostates.

Historical and Institutional Context

Historically, the doctrine of white supremacy has been utilized to justify a range of systemic oppressions, including:

European colonialism and the transatlantic slave trade.

Legalized systems of racial segregation such as Jim Crow laws in the United States and apartheid in South Africa.

Ideologies like "scientific racism," which attempted to biologically rank human races.

Contemporary Movements and Global ReachIn modern times, white supremacy encompasses a spectrum of far-right movements, including neo-Nazism, white nationalism, and the Ku Klux Klan. While the concept is historically associated with Western societies, the reach of white supremacist ideology has become a global phenomenon.

Through the internet and online communities, radical ideologies have spread across borders. Counter-terrorism agencies, such as the Indonesian National Police (Polri) and the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT), have raised alarms over teenagers and young adults in Southeast Asia becoming radicalized by foreign, far-right, and neo-Nazi extremist groups in digital spaces.
